HENDERSON VITA SITE OPENS DESPITE INCLEMENT WEATHER The United Way operated VITA site located at the Henderson Housing Authority opened its doors on Saturday, February 2nd, and welcomed dozens of anxious tax filers hoping to get their taxes filed before the predicted snow and ice made its way into the area. This is the sixth year of the Henderson VITA site which is a volunteer manned tax site offering free tax preparation and efiling for individuals and families of low to moderate income. Filers have their taxes prepared and filed at the site free of charge and are offered information in connection with banking services and savings bonds. They are also given an opportunity to learn more about affordable healthcare options. Though scheduled to be open on Tuesday, February 4th, inclement weather prevented volunteers from being asked to get out in the ice and snow. However, the doors reopened on Thursday, February 6th, where the line stretched out past the door to the entrance of the site. The site will remain open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 pm until 7 pm, and on Saturdays, from 9 am until 1 pm, through April 10th. To learn more about the program, hours of operation and what you need to bring with you in order to have your taxes filed, please click on the Community Investment tab at the top of the page, then on the VITA link on the drop down menu.
